National Instruments: New data acquisition platform based on Ethernet

E-mail Print

National Instruments has announced the new modular NI CompactDAQ data acquisition based on Ethernet, which combines ease of use and low cost data logger with the performance and flexibility of modular instrumentation. The new NI cDAQ-9188 is designed to support eight modules of E / S with which it can measure up to 256 channels of electrical, physical, mechanical or acoustic in a small and robust housing (25x9x9 cm).

With over 50 different modules E / S to choose from, engineers and scientists can develop measurement systems for remote or distributed high-speed infrastructure using Gigabit Ethernet. In addition, NI

CompactDAQ simplifies initial configuration with the technology of automatic network configuration "Zero Configuration Networking" and the utility built-in configuration and Web-based monitoring.

"We chose NI CompactDAQ because of the flexibility offered by its rich set of modules E / S and scalability of Ethernet infrastructure," said Randy Recoba, senior test engineer Sub-Zero, Inc. "The flexibility of Ethernet allows us to more easily standardize our test systems to eliminate many of the physical limitations required by many other traditional PC interfaces. We used the data acquisition hardware and software from National Instruments in our test applications for years due to the measurement accuracy, system stability and ease of use are available through these resources. "

NI CompactDAQ uses patented NI Signal Streamin to establish data transmission with high bandwidth via Ethernet to the host. NI Signal Streaming provides the ability to maintain bidirectional communications analog waveform and digital on a TCP / IP on an ongoing basis. Thanks to technology, timing and synchronization of NI-STC3, each chassis can also manage up to seven different tasks I / S hardware timed by different sampling frequencies, including I / S analog I / S digital counter / timers. The chassis operates within a temperature range between -20 º C and 55 º C and can withstand up to 30 g shock and 3 g of vibrations, this makes NI CompactDAQ ideal for applications demanding test in the laboratory, field or the production line.

In addition to the Ethernet frame, the platform includes NI CompactDAQ chassis of four and eight USB slots and I / O modules S Series C. NI offers more than 50 C Series modules for use interchangeably in NI CompactDAQ systems, each of them is hot swappable and auto-detectable to simplify configuration. The C Series modules offer integrated signal conditioning and multiple connectivity options to create mixed measurement systems and custom tailored to the needs of an application. For example, a single analog input module, you can purchase a maximum of four simultaneous channels of input voltage to 1 MS / s to measure high speed signals such as ballistic pressure transducers or ultrasonic.

The driver software NI-DAQmx, including NI CompactDAQ, goes beyond what a basic controller device to provide greater productivity and performance. With NI-DAQmx, engineers and scientists can record the data of simple experiments or develop a full system test on NI LabVIEW, NI LabWindows ™ / CVI, ANSI C / C + + or Microsoft Visual Studio. NET. Moreover, a consistent API means that an application for a chassis will work with NI USB CompactDAQ NI CompactDAQ Ethernet chassis without having to introduce any change in the software.

Programming with NI LabVIEW CompactDAQ offers maximum performance with minimum effort. LabVIEW graphical programming to engineers and scientists enables the development of sophisticated measurement systems, test and control using intuitive graphical icons and wires that resemble a flowchart. Multiple chassis timing engines optimizations NI CompactDAQ complement of multi-core LabVIEW for easy programming of multiple measurement tasks in parallel. LabVIEW also offers integration with thousands of other hardware devices and provides hundreds of built-in libraries for advanced analysis and data visualization.
