What is "Foundation Fieldbus"?
It is a bidirectional serial communication system fully digital at a speed of 31.25 kbits / s which interconnects field devices such as sensors, actuators and controllers.

Fieldbus is a local area network (LAN) for instruments used in process and manufacturing automation with the ability to distribute control application across the network.
This fieldbus system retains the characteristics of 4 to 20 mA analog such as:
- Physical interface standard two-wire.
- Powered devices over the bus.
- Intrinsically safe operation.
Additionally Fieldbus Foundation to:
- Increased capacity due to fully digital communication.
- Reducing the cost of wiring and terminations due to the connection of a single bus dispostivos.
- Selection of equipment suppliers due to interoperabiliclad.
- Reducing the number of computers in the control room due to the ability to distribute certain control tasks and I / O devices on the network.
- Connecting to high speed Ethernet larger systems.

FIELDBUS BENEFITS
Increased availability of information
Fieldbus allows multiple variables of a device can be carried to the control system to be archived, trend analysis, process optimization studies and reporting.
The characteristics of high resolution and error free digital communication can improve the ability to control.

Expanded view of the process
The self-diagnostic capabilities and communication devices, microprocessor-based field help reduce downtime and improve plant safety.
On the detection of abnormal conditions or preventive maintenance, operations and maintenance personnel can be notified. This allows you to initiate a corrective action quickly and safely.

Diagnosis of a valve using Foundation Fieldbus
Reducing the amount of equipment
Foundation fieldbus use "Function Blocks" to implement the control strategy. These blocks are standard automation functions. Many control system functions as analog input (AI), analog output (AO) control and Proportional / Integral / Derivative (PID) can be executed by the field device itself.
Control.ID distribution field devices reduces the amount of equipment input / output and control needed, including cabinets and power supplies.
Reduced wiring
Fieldbus allows many devices to connect to a single pair of wires. This results in less cabling, fewer intrinsic barriers and cabinets.
