Frequent applications of magnetic flowmeters: water industries, processes and food

E-mail Print

This measurement principle has been used worldwide for over 50 years, as witnessed by the fact that the popularity of these flowmeters has not diminished at all in many different fields.

In the industrial environment, magnetic flowmeters are the most common water management facilities, in the process industry in the pharmaceutical and food industry. Modern magnetic flowmeters are so robust that can be used in mining and tunneling in the harshest environmental conditions in any application. His typical routine use includes measurement and continuous flow control, filling and dosimetry measurement and custody transfer applications. These flowmeters can measure many aqueous fluids: water, sewage, sludge, slurries, pastes, acids, alkalis, juices, pureed fruit, etc. They can not measure, however, no non-conductive liquids, or gases or steam.

Research and subsequent developments in the fields of sensor design and signal processing have led to a product with a proven track record and proven service that allows easy integration into highly complex applications for measurement, instrumentation and high-level control. Actual examples highlighted below are sufficient to illustrate the status of these flowmeters.

Application Example No. 1 - Water / Wastewater:

Magnetic flowmeters have two major application areas in the water management industry:

- Treatment and distribution of drinking water to consumers ios (aquatic facilities, home users, etc.)..

- Control water collection (both sewage and rain water) for purification in water treatment plants waste responsible for the return of the medium.

The laws and regulations applicable to water control in potable water systems, sewer systems and water treatment plants are becoming more strict and detailed monitoring of water from its source to the consumer is essential. Magnetic flowmeters are an ideal choice for the measurement at several points in these systems and help identify and reduce leakage points.

Task:

The operator of the plant wastewater treatment industrial complex wants to measure the volume of wastewater entering the plant. To do this, the operator needs information about the following:

- Control of the inflow, so that process management can be optimized in real time.

- Control volume for each individual source, so that the services provided by the plant wastewater treatment can be tracked and billed to the customer according to their use.

Solution:

In each attack a magnetic flowmeter is installed between the user's local and general collector. The flows that records every magnetic flowmeter transmitted via electrical signals to the control of the treatment plant. Each flow meter also sends an electrical signal pulse count of the total consumption of water (water discharge). The magnetic flowmeter approved weight and size as those of E + H are widely used in water supply management for billing services to commercial customers.

Application Example No. 2 - Process Industry:

Many and varied are the demands that are required to comply with flowmeters in the process industry: resistance to aggressive fluids, requirements for use in hazardous areas, suitability for integration into systems and process control instrumentation, and a good relationship cost-effective to install.

Fig magnetic two-wire flow meter suitable for use in hazardous areas Ex 1 / 2 of E + H, easy to install in the process industry.

Task:

The operator of the facility is to transfer chemical solution hydrochloric acid 33% of the storage tank to the production area. The operator has specified a number of other functions in addition to measuring flow rate:

- The flow must be chemically resistant to hydrochloric acid reagent.

- The flow must be easily integrated into the instrumentation and measurement environment exist.

Solution:

A two-wire flow meter for low power consumption and installation costs cheaper than any conventional four-wire team (4-20 mA) / suitable for explosion hazardous area Ex 1 / 2 / digital interfaces for connection to a fieldbus / coating Teflon and Tantalum measuring electrodes for maximum fluid resistance.

Application Example No. 3 - Food industry:

In the food industry is so important technical characteristics of the devices and their suitability to meet hygiene standards required by the standard. The adequacy of systems for cleaning is critical in this context, and applies to measurement systems with the same rigor as any other equipment of the plant. This fact imposes the coating durability requirements, which must conform to the fluid being measured. The critical factors are: various production processes are developed at room temperature or lower. 3 Typical temperatures involved in the cleaning process (CIP) and sterilization (SIP) comprise a range of values between +70 and +140 ° C (160 and 285 ° F). To enhance the effects of cleaning chemicals are usually added alkaline / caustic or organic substances.

Task:

A yogurt maker wants to inject molasses to their product as a reinforcement of flavor from a storage tank. The materials used in building the system must be able to withstand the stresses that involve cleaning and sterilization processes and comply with quality standards of the EU (EHEDG) on construction of systems in the food industry.

Solution:

A magnetic flowmeter measuring tube longitudinal installation (suitable for brush cleaning, unrestricted) / Stainless steel / PFA / all materials exposed to the fluid is on the list and meet FDA requirements imposed by the certificate 3-A / model meets the EHEDG.
