Advantages:
- Provide excellent short-term repeatability.
- Some models have a wide range of measured values and a good linear behavior.
- They have digital output for both the total flow to the fluid velocity.
- There are compact models for flow rates established.
- They offer high accuracy under certain conditions (field measured values of viscosity).
- The temperature and pressure do not impose limits virtually usability.
- High Fidelity and positive results in lubricating fluid applications.
- Allow the measurement with aggressive fluids and non-conductive fluids, including gases.
- Low pressure drops.
- Provide a timely response excellent.

Disadvantages:
- Requires input stages and release times (20 times the nominal diameter sections for input and 5 times for the output, respectively).
- The vortices in the flow affect them easily (this situation can be rectified with flow conditioners).
- The wear of the pivots (in general ", for fluid velocities too high) causes deviations in the implementation of these flowmeters and reduces its operating life.
- Small models have limitations in their field of measurement values.
- Pulsating fluids affect proper operation. In general, the values given by the flow in these cases are often too high.
- If the fluid contains solid particles intrusive (pressure drop) is required upstream filters.
- All equipment must be perfectly clean before starting work on the system (to remove solder chips, etc.)..
Applications
The benefits listed in the previous section allow us to understand why this kind of meter is widely used in flow monitoring applications, batch processing and high-precision measurement of hydrocarbons. Its repeatability is nearly as high as the equipment used for calibration. For this feature, recently also used as control standards for accountants or transfer. The diversity of materials available today that allows you to use these counters also aggressive substances.
Already in the nineteenth century, the counters based on this principle were widely disseminated by the distribution system water. Today, this remains a typical field of application for accountants and Woltmann type reel with mechanical transmission of the rotating action of a meter (water meters).
The turbine meters are easily affected by contaminants. The fibrous constituents of a fluid can cause clogging of the pivot and the granular particles can damage the edge of the trowel and the surface of the helix. The intrusion of air in the fluid can communicate over the rotor speed. If this happens frequently, the pivot fails and the calibration factor changes. The value field of application includes the following areas:
- The chemical industry, for their performance characteristics, corrosion resistance, ease of installation and security.
- The measurement in cryogenic applications: special pivots to measure fluid flow rates at low temperatures.
- The measurement of oils: along with the mass flow meter Coriolis effect are probably the best way to measure transfers of large amounts of light oil.
- Check calibration tests: employees like accountants Side
its high repeatability.
- The dairy industry food and beverage industry: proven reliable performance in applications of this sector.
- The pharmaceutical industry: models for hygienic and accuracy of high value fluids.
- Flows in large pipes, well proven entry-level models in water supply applications.
