In general, most applications fall into the following categories:

A. Torque constant.

B. Constant power.

C. Torque variable.

A. Torque constant .-

About 90% of industrial machines of general application (other than bombs) are constant torque systems. Torque requirements are independent of machine speed. If the machine speed is doubled, then the power is also doubled. See Figure 24.

The load requires the same amount of torque at both low and high speed. The constant torque throughout the speed range, and the power increases or decreases in direct proportion to speed.
